Exercise & Weightloss Plan

I want to record this plan that I initially worked on and then fleshed out with an LLM. I was going to keep this private, but I decided to post it here to hold myself accountable. Normally, my writing is entirely my own, but I'm making an exception here. I recently spoke with some very creative and talented Episcopal communication directors about how they have incorporated LLMs into their workflow while ensuring the work respects human dignity. With work and other aspects of society increasingly adopting AI, I am coming to terms with how to integrate it into my own life. Seeing that the Linux Kernel and Debian communities now allow it, I've decided not to be too hard on myself.

Weight Loss & Cycling Prep

🎯 The Core Objectives

  1. Weight Loss: Drop 20-30 lbs (Milestones: 220 lbs ➔ 210 lbs) at a rate of ~2 lbs of fat per week.
  2. Muscle: Preserve existing muscle mass while in a caloric deficit.
  3. The Commute: Build a massive cardiovascular base to eventually bicycle to work (16 miles iso 32 miles round-trip) to save money, doing so mostly sweat-free at 14-16 mph is the goal.

🍽️ Phase 1: The Weight Loss Grind

🗓️ The Weekly Master Schedule

Day Walking Airdyne Strength
Monday 1.5 to 2 hours 45-60 min ❌ Rest
Tuesday 1.5 to 2 hours 45-60 min ✅ Full Routine
Wednesday 1.5 to 2 hours 45-60 min ❌ Rest
Thursday 1.5 to 2 hours 45-60 min ✅ Full Routine
Friday 1.5 to 2 hours 45-60 min ❌ Rest
Saturday 1.5 to 2 hours ❌ Rest ✅ Full Routine
Sunday 1.5 to 2 hours ❌ Rest ❌ Rest

💪 The Strength Routine (Tue / Thu / Sat)

Perform this no-equipment routine to preserve muscle. Rest 60 seconds between sets.

  1. Chair Squats: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
  2. Incline Push-ups: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
  3. Glute Bridges: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
  4. Superman Holds: 3 sets holding 15-30 seconds
  5. Wall Sits: 3 sets holding 30-60 seconds

IMPORTANT - Progressive Overload: When easily handling 15-20 reps, make the exercise harder (e.g., transition from Incline Push-ups to Floor Push-ups, or add weights) to keep forcing muscle adaptation.

🚴 Phase 2: Goal Weight & The Commute Transition

Once hitting target weight (190-210 lbs) and ready to start commuting to work:

  1. Drop the Deficit: Stop eating at a deficit; eat at "maintenance" to fuel daily 32-mile round-trip commute.
  2. Scrap the Old Cardio: commute will completely replace the Schwinn Airdyne and the 2 hours of daily walking.
  3. Keep the Strength: Continue doing 3-day-a-week bodyweight routine to maintain your upper body and core.
