News from the Frontier
News that Stuck out to me from National, State, and Local but mostly political
- Oklahoma Spotlight: Oklahoma State Senate Elections Are Interesting. There were yet again A LOT of uncontested elections as typical in our state. Surprising enough the GOP has hardly challenged Democrats and instead focusing on attacking their own this cycle. I got a reach out by a Dem friend but passed for sure. I've gotten some fellow neighboring Democrat Counties to restart but I haven't fixed our struggling county Party.
Oklahoma Democratic Gubernatorial Candidates
- House Minority Leader Cyndi Munson (D-OKC);
- former Sen. Connie Johnson (D-OKC); and
- Arya Azma, a securities trader who announced his candidacy in October. Source for candidates
About the County party, We are stuck where a few will meet to complain & then be weary of me. All while I have to muster all efforts with little input. I was also really dispirited that a fellow County chair in another county got hold of someone locally(As well as Numerous paid petitioners) to help get signatures for their backing of State Question to create Open Primaries. Its fine but it sucks that we get the visit then they send out paid people & then someone locally that hasn't showed up to a county party meeting. Also, why hasn't this person who is hitting up all these doors helped the county party? They talked to numerous fellow members and yet none of them said anything or suggested they help with the county party. Just points that our members don't really care about local aspects and my own attempt to talk with that volunteer failed. They aren't MAGA in this area and they have some personal pull to National Dems but there is no desire for local stuff. I'm fine with being replaced or moved to a marginal role. Not sure why we are dependent on one person. I open the floor and hand out links & list of candidates. I don't want to carry everything.
My friend who has filled in as a fellow officer dropped the bag that they will never boost an Oklahoma Dem due to some metric that they are too corporate or not anything he believes in. Not going to lie it's been an issue with our party & something that I made apparent with my frustrations at meetings. My friend ENJOYS pointing out what GOP is doing wrong but running a county party is growing the local party, recruiting & electing dems, and advocating for issues we support. Welp, They love just going off about something they loathe & maybe point to issues National Dems should back but never names a candidate or sponsors a resolution or anything. So I end up handling it poorly. Probably another reason why we are struggling as a party because of my poor ability of handling this stuff. Really wish it wasn't just on me.
I took way way too long on a quick update about something. I will totally just start working on something about it soon so to get it off my mind. Going to advance the Democrats in the Park idea. Casual, easy, nor fuss, and greet & chill.
- National/Current Events: THE GREAT TACO TUESDAY, THANK GOODNESS
- Quick Take: The President's Easter Day actions and social media post were atrocious.
Tech Projects
Linux tinkering & Other Project Updates
- Project: My quick and dirty Neovim setup
- Status: Love VIM but writing more blogs, would like to use Harper Grammar but don't want to use it with most other setups. So I'm migrating my writing(or editing) to Neovim even though I'm happy with mostly vanilla/modern VIM.
- Next Steps: Set it up without errors and talk about how that went along with how to use it.
Garden Updates
Radishes about all busted out and I added in parsnips as surprise week crop to try to grow for market(and home).
- Status: Most radishes sprouted.
- Next Steps: Will let them grow a bit before thinning. Set aside extra spots to try to relocate the thinned items.
- Other Next Steps: I need to get items together and worked on for the Dream Big Project Mgmt "Gardening" Program.
Midweek Wisdom:
"[t]he farmer is a believer. Naturally a believer. He plows in faith; he sows in hope; he reaps in charity. From the morning milking to midnight farrow the farmer witnesses personally: ‘All things come of thee, O Lord, and of thine own have we given thee."
