Thoughts

I’ve started a bit of a challenge: reading “Dad books.” I was kind of struck by the TV series The Boys, where Hughie Campbell’s dad ends up hospitalized and in a coma, facing death. Hughie’s frustrated he never talked to his dad about the book his dad wanted to discuss.

“All he ever wants is to chat about some stupid fucking James Patterson book.”

So this sparked the idea—read some of these so-called “Dad books.” I started with the Along Came a Spider series and plan to move on to Michael Crichton and Clive Cussler, among others. These books feel like the kind you’d grab at the airport to read on a vacation or business trip. Definitely giving off that 90s Dad vibe.

Also, one of the reads this week led me down a rabbit hole about the drama in the Liberal vs. Left discourse—specifically, the Abundance Libs. It sounds pragmatic, and maybe the critiques have a point, but the backlash feels way too harsh for what seems like a well-meaning starting point where Democrarts can go next. The ideas feel like a good step in shifting the public’s view of liberals. It’s a balance, and it could be part of a solid strategy.

Now I’m digging into the Andy Carpenter series by David Rosenfelt. It’s something I caught on from work that gave me some curiosity. I honestly thought it was going to be more about dogs—there are dogs on every cover—but so far, they feel kind of ancillary to the story. Maybe the dogs take on a bigger role as the series goes on.

Adub signing off. Happy readings.
